Centrica expands in Asia with Thai LNG deal

UK-headquartered energy company Centrica has signed an agreement with PTT for the Thai state-owned oil and gas company to supply liquefied natural gas for 10 years across a range of destinations in Asia, with deliveries expected to begin in 2028.

The deal marks a step forward in Centrica’s efforts to grow its LNG portfolio in Asia markets.

For PTT, it marks its first, long-term international LNG sale.

It’s been a busy week for PTT, which just announced it will buy 2 million tonnes a year of LNG from Alaska LNG over 20 years under a cooperation deal signed with Glenfarne Alaska LNG.

Centrica Chief Executive Chris O’Shea said, “LNG is a key part of Centrica’s long-term strategy and will continue to play a pivotal role in enabling the energy transition.”

Centrica handles global LNG trading and shipping operations and operates an office in Singapore. Its services include liquefaction, chartering, and re-gasification, plus physical and financial trading.

In February this year it entered into a sale and purchase agreement with Petrobras, the leading Brazilian integrated oil and gas company, involving the supply of 0.8 million tonnes a year of LNG for 15 years.
